Why This Blog?

March 28, 2015

MeTakingPhotoLet me start this page about ME, by asking you some questions about YOU:

  • are you someone that loves seeing images of those far-flung locations whilst wishing you were there?
  • do you have that instinctive feeling that your DNA holds the link to wandering, to traveling?
  • do you love to be caught up in the moment of providing all your senses with any new experience possible?
  • instead of being right where you are now, are you someone who continually dreams of being somewhere else?
  • are you someone who says “I WISH I COULD DO THAT”?

If you answered yes to any of the above, then guess what? We may be related.

Except for the last point, I’m driven by the some of exactly the same things that are making you the person you are.

But in relation to “I wish I could do that” believe me I’m not anyone special. I just tend to throw myself into things and worry about the implications once it’s too late to do anything about them. For a bit more on this, have a read of my Moving On post.

My very own self-inflicted, sink-or-swim mentality seems to work for me and it most certainly will work for you too!

I solo travel NOT because I don’t like people. I do it because then I have the ability to do it when and how I chose and because I’m not very good at waiting for things to happen. The added benefit is I get to make new friends and some of the people I love most in the world are those I’ve met whilst being somewhere other than the place that is home.

I’ve worked in developing countries, worked for charities and NGO’s and organised charity events. The commonality of those things is the satisfaction of being able to share a part of myself, be it knowledge, experience, advice or simply sharing the act of having some fun.

That is the upshot . . . are you still reading (well done!) this website is a way for me to be out there doing “it” while also feeding my desire to support other people. My plan is to make the mistakes for you, then provide you with alternatives, thereby helping you to have the best time ever on your travels.

And if you really can’t make yourself brave enough to go do it for yourself, then hopefully my tales will be enough of a voyeuristic journey to satisfy the points you said “yes” to above.

My name is Jacqui, I was born in New Zealand and although there was no history of traveling in my family, I couldn’t wait to travel . . . I left my hometown when I was 18 and have been moving on and off since.  Australia, the UK, South East Asia and now, living and breathing Africa!

A four hour (ish) walk into the hills at the end o A four hour (ish) walk into the hills at the end of the Anniseed Valley Road. The walk encompasses crossing the river multiple times, going past a few historic copper mines, through beautiful native bush and some steep scrambly climbs.
I find it quite hard getting back into reality aft I find it quite hard getting back into reality after an adventure, but this was a such a lovely help towards my transition in the office this morning. The addition of the elephant on my wall was an especially nice touch which I will gaze at longingly inbetween tasks.
